Estimated read time 3 min read

While paying a professional photographer to attend your child’s birthday party may be a bit more expensive than you’d like to spend, your baby’s first birthday is something you’ll want to remember forever. Fortunately, there are many ways to take posed and unposed photos on your own to commemorate the event.

Backdrop suggestions

There are many low-cost backdrops you can make yourself at home if you want a portrait look for your child’s first birthday photos. The backgrounds listed below are ideal for posed photographs.

One easy backdrop concept is to write the number “one” or multiples of it on a blank wall. Make sure the size is slightly taller than your child when he or she is sitting up. The last thing you need is a picture where a number is missing because the subject is several yards taller than your child. Choose the material you want to use to create your number before you do anything else. One could be created from the following materials:

  • Poster board with colour
  • Sanitary paper
  • Balloons
  • Printed plates
  • Event hats

Soft Streamers

If it’s a nice day outside, you can make a whimsical and unusual backdrop by simply draping pastel streamers from a low tree branch. Use baby blue, pale green, and yellow streamers for the boy’s background.Use the lightest pinks and lilacs you can find combined with cream-colored streamers if the backdrop is for a girl. Measure the length of streamer required to extend from the tree branch to the ground to begin. Cut out enough streamers to cover an area of about two feet in width, plus an additional four inches to allow space for tying the streamer to the tree branch. However, not every piece of streamer needs to be precisely the same length. If you want a more staggered appearance, you can change them a little. As you tie each streamer to the branch, alternate the colors until you have a section of streamers that is about two feet wide. A small chair works well as a prop for your child to hold onto if he’s standing while you strike some standing poses.
