Movado - meaning always in motion.
The story of Movado began in 1881 in a small workshop in Chaux-de-Fonds Switzerland.
Achille Ditesheim and his six employees started fully making watches by hand, all in house,
a slow and expensive process.
In 1890 Achilles two brothers, Leopold and Isidore joined the watchmaker becoming LAI Ditesheim.
In 1900 LAI Ditesheim won a silver medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition, and from this early
success the brothers started to focus on modernizing production methods and improving technical
expertise.

A new factory was built with the most modern machines to be found and another brother Isacc Ditesheim
injected capital into the company.
1905 represented a cruicial turning point, as this was the year Movado was chosen as the brand name
along with its hands symbol.
They also won their first golf medal in the Universal Exhibition in Leigo.
From this time forward Movado went from strength to strength.

The brothers were equally concerned with artistic design as they were with technical expertise.
This focus on both artistic and technical excellence has led to the following notable milestones
by Movado :-
- 1912 release of Polyplan wristwatch, a curved case to fit the contours of the wrist
- 1926 Ermeto, watch that allows it to wind itself and be protected from shocks, temperature
and pressure variations
- 1947 creation of the famous museum watch face design by designer Nathan George Horwitt
- 1961 Movado aquired the design of the museum watch and began to manufacture it
- 1988 The release of th limited edition collectors watch, the Andy Warhol Times/5 (Only 250
of these made of which Movado retained 50)
The final picture selection for the watch face designs of the Andy Warhol masterpiece was found in
an envelope after Andy Warhols death.
