1911 Santos-Dumont wrist watch is launched, inspired by the first model made in 1905 for the famous
Brazillian balloonist Albert Santos Dumont.
The popularity of this early model wrist watch helped change the perceptions of the watch buying public to
believe that the wrist watch was more than just an effeminate piece of jewellery.
Cartier then released the Tank wrist watch in 1919 (Inspird by the tanks where the tracks were longer than the body).
The tank watch goes on to become one of the most popular and durable designs in watches, and also one of the
most faked or copied watch of all time. In 1910 Cartier invented the deployable buckle for the wrist watch.

These include the Baignore, Tortue, and Tonneau all of which are still on sale today.
Then in 1932 came the Pasha, the first luxury water resistant watch (the rolex oyster was already on sale at
an inexpensive price) which was made for the Pasha of Marrakesh, so that he would know when to get out of
his swimming pool.
